摘要
The Global Biodiversity Information Facility was founded in 2001, with the principal objective of making Biodiversity data freely and universally available. GBIF consists of countries and organisations (participants) that have signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The dissemination of biodiversity data is organised by Participant Nodes. The Austrian and the German National Nodes represent two models for national Node organisation. The Austrian Node is centralised at one institution while Germany has set up a system of seven Nodes to organise her contribution. The German Botanical Node is further described, in which botanical gardens play an important role as the showcase for biodiversity.
