摘要
The increase in demand to cater needs of increasing population and to meet the next gen applications that require high speed data transfer rates has led the path towards potential competitors that complement present day radio systems. Free space optics (FSO) is widely accepted to be a prominent solution for the above-mentioned issues. FSO systems are vulnerable to adversities present in the channel that are generally the critical atmospheric conditions. This creates a loss in magnitude of transmitted power and this can be boosted up using optical amplifiers like Erbium doped field amplifiers (EDFA). This paper analyses the performance of different modes of amplification using EDFA amplifier that enhances the system performance. In our research we found that the pre-amplification of FSO system at 1000 meters link distance produced a quality factor of 13.3 at high levels of atmospheric attenuation while the post amplification link produced quality factor of 30.9 at same channel conditions. The detailed analysis of various performance factors that are contributing to performance enhancement by adopting different amplification strategies are presented in this paper.
