Structure and magnetic property investigations of Pr2Co17-xGax (x = 0-8) compounds

摘要
The influence of Ga substitution for Co on the structure and magnetic properties of Pr2Co17-xGax compounds with 0 less than or equal to x less than or equal to 8 was investigated. X-ray diffraction indicates that all samples studied are single phase with the rhombohedral Th2Zn17-type structure. The unit cell volume shows an approximately linear increase at a rate of about 8.4 Angstrom per Ga atom. The Curie temperature and the saturation moment at 5 K was found to decrease monotonously with increasing Ga concentration, due to the reduction of the moment of Co sublattice and the magnetic dilution caused by non-magnetic Ga substitution. The anisotropy characteristics of Pr2Co17-xGax were observed and discussed upon substitution of Ga. Spin-reorientation transitions were not observed for all samples. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
