Self-assembly in organolanthanide chemistry: Formation of rings and clusters

摘要
Highly symmetrical arrangements of the lanthanide metals Ln including the S6-symmetrical chair conformations of the [Sm(CN)]6 ring in 1 or an icosahedron as in 2 are found in novel multinuclear cyclopentadienyl complexes. The formation of different structural motifs is directed by ionic bonding criteria such as the nature of the bridging heteroligands and the Cp/Ln ratio.
