摘要
Because of various reasons, Chinese English teaching emphasized the training of basic linguistic skills and ignored the knowledge of foreign countries' literature and cultural background for a very long time. As a result, Chinese students may have a good grasp of grammar and basic linguistic skills, but they usually do not know much about English literature, nor do they have much understanding of English or European culture and even Chinese culture. Without any intercultural communication abilities, Chinese students couldn't confront with practical work. For cultivating the excellent students, who not only own the languages expressive ability but also possess the independent critical judgment, it's very indispensable to offer the courses of British literature and western culture courses as well as offering the courses of Chinese culture and comparative study in English.
