Kinetics and Thermodynamics of Ultra-high Molecular Weight Polyethylene Fibre Dyed with Sudan Blue II Dye

摘要
In order to solve the dyeing problem of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fibre, the dyeing properties of Sudan blue II dye with a high planarity and super hydrophobic structure in extracted UHMWPE fibre were studied, including the dyeing process, dyeing kinetics and thermodynamics parameters. The results show that Sudan blue II has good dyeing performance in the case of UHMWPE fibre. The optimum dyeing procedure is carried out at 100 degrees C for 30 min with 0.2% AEO-9 and a pH value 5. The K/S value reaches 8.48 and the colour fastness to rubbing and washing has a higher rating than 4. Thermodynamics and kinetics results show that Sudan blue dye has a high affinity for extracted UHMWPE fibre. But, due to the high structural regularity and the high crystallinity (95%) of the fibre, the dye exhaustion at equilibrium, partition coefficient and diffusion coefficient are relatively low.
