Histological evaluation of contaminated furcal perforation in dogs' teeth repaired by MTA with or without internal matrix

摘要
The histologic healing response of contaminated furcal perforations in dogs' teeth repaired with mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) material with or without internal matrices (calcium sulfate), was investigated. A total of 72 teeth from 9 healthy adult dogs were used and all teeth were free from carries or periodontal disease. The teeth were divided into four experimental and two control groups. Two materials, the grey type of MTA and amalgam were used as filling material to repair the perforation. It was observed that the use of calcium sulfate under the MTA causes mild to moderate chronic inflammatory infiltration. No extrusion of the filling material was observed in the groups that used calcium sulfate compared to those without calcium sulfate. It was also observed that the use of calcium sulfate as an internal matrix did not aid bone regeneration or prevent epithelium migration into the defected perforation area.
