摘要
Subject: In a 7;11 year old boy with trichotillomania (ICD-10 F63.3),attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) (ICD-10 F90.1), and subclinical minimal cerebral dysfunction, Methylphenidate (Ritalin) medication resulted in a remarkable improvement: unexspected interruption of trichotillomania with regrowth of hair. Discussion: Trichotillomania is an impulse control disorder combined with twisting and pulling out hair. There is a high comorbidity with different psychiatric disordres. As ADHD and trichotillomania are impulse control disorders methylphenidate, acting indirectly and sympathomimetically, seems to reactivate dysfunctional inhibitory control mechanisms. Available literature on trichotillomania did not discuss methylphenidate treatment.
