A mathematical model is suggested for a heterogeneous catalytic process. The model is based on the assumption that the spherical surface of a catalyst pellet has a layer in which there are many dendrites that are formed by interconnected macrochannels and microchannels and have a single inlet at the surface. The depth of penetration of fine microchannels into the pellet bulk is assumed to depend on the diameter of the inlet channel. The model is applied to the regeneration of a carburized catalyst.
