Preparation of high-Jc large-size YBCO films (30 x 10 cm2) by coating-pyrolysis process on CeO2-buffered sapphire

A large-size, two-dimensional YBa2Cu3O7 (YBCO) film was successfully prepared by a chemical solution-based coating-pyrolysis process on a 30 x 10-cm(2) size rectangular substrate of R-plane sapphire with a vacuum-deposited CeO2 buffer layer. A fluorine-free metal acetylacetonate-based solution was used for coating the substrate. A large-diameter spin-coater and a tube furnace were adopted in the coating and annealing procedure, respectively. The c-axis oriented YBCO film grown on the 30 x 10-cm(2) rectangular substrate demonstrated high inductive-J(c) values with an average 2.6 MA/cm(2) at 77 K. The distribution of J(c) was fairly uniform for an ex situ process, i.e., 85% of the observations fall within +/-20% of the average. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
