A one-dimensional chain complex {Na[ZnL(H2O)(2)]}(n) was synthesized by sodium 2,2-dihydroxyl-malonate (Na2L') and hydrate zinc perchlorate. The crystal belongs to the monoclinic system, space group P2(t)/n with a = 5.936(2), b = 7.203(3), c = 19.356(8) Angstrom, beta = 95.264(6)0, V 824.2(6) Angstrom(3), Z = 4, C3H5NaO8Zn, M-r = 257.43, D-c = 2.075 g/cm(3), F(000) = 512 and mu = 3.045 mm The structure was refined to R = 0.0381 and wR = 0.0766 for 1188 observed reflections (I > 2sigma(I)). In the complex the zinc(II) atom is coordinated to six oxygen atoms from two H2O molecules, two carboxylate groups, one ionized hydroxyl group and one hydroxyl group. By the coordination of zinc(II) ions and bridging ligand 2-hydroxyl-2-hydroxylate-malonate trivalent anion the one-dimensional chain is constructed.
