Ion transport parameters through low pressure noble gas discharges

The ion transport parameters for the rare gases Ne, Ar and Kr, have been experimentally determined using the voltage transient method. The parameters include the average ion drift velocity W and the ion longitudinal diffusion coefficient NDi for each gas. All ion transport parameters for the atomic gases were taken for charged particle swarms within the energy range 10 < E/N < 100 Td (where 1 Td = 10(-17) V cm(2)) with a pressure range of 2 < p < 50 Torr (where 1 Torr = 0.133 kPa). Here E is the applied electric field and N is the gas number density.
