We report the electrochemical properties of the fly ash sampled from electrostatic precipitators at some fossil fuel power plants. The oil-fired fly ash consists mainly of carbon and shows lithium insertion-extraction ability. The fly ash is investigated as a possible low-cost material for lithium ion batteries.
