Quenching of excimer fluorescence of crystalline pyrene by doped anthracene

摘要
Fluorescence spectra of crystalline pyrene doped with anthracene are recorded on spectrofluorophotometer at room temperature. The excimeric fluorescence of pyrene corresponding to a broad, structureless band is observed to be quenched by successive additions of anthracene. The extent of quenching varies with concentration of anthracene and is nearly in agreement with Stern-Volmer equation. The fluorescence quenching is explained on the basis of energy transfer processes occurring between the singlet excited pyrene and anthracene. The anthracene doped pyrene luminophors form solid solution. The formation of solid solution is confirmed by X-ray powder diffraction analysis.
