Magnetic study of the ThCr2Si2-type RIr2Si2 (R=Pr,Nd) compounds:: Magnetic structure of NdIr2Si2 from powder neutron diffraction

摘要
We report on synthesis and magnetic characterization of the tetragonal ThCr2Si2-type PrIr2Si2 and NdIr2Si2 compounds. The PrIr2Si2 compound, not yet signaled, orders antiferromagnetically below T-N=47(1) K. The NdIr2Si2 compound orders antiferromagnetically below T-N = 33(1) K. The magnetic structure of NdIr2Si2 consists of ferromagnetic Nd planes antiferromagnetically coupled with the next adjacent Nd plane stacked along the c axis. The results are discussed and compared with those obtained previously on isotypic RT2Si2 compounds (R=Pr-Nd; T=transition metals of groups 7-9). (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
