Tetrapyridine-beryllium polyiodide [Be(PY)(4)](2)(I-3)(2)(I-4) (1) was prepared from beryllium powder and iodine in pyridine suspension to give brown crystal plates, which were characterized by X-ray diffraction and IR spectroscopy. 1 crystallizes monoclinically in the space group C2/c with four formula units per unit cell. Lattice dimensions at 100(2) K: a = 2044.1(1), 6 = 1524.5(1), c = 1843.8(1) pm, beta = 103.65(1)degrees, R-1 = 0.0301. The structure of 1 consists of distorted tetrahedral dications, triiodide ions without site symmetry, and centrosymmetric linear tetraiodidc ions.
