Optical properties of excitons in quantum dots

We show how to compute the optical spectra of quantum dots (QDs) from the analysis of the scattering of an electromagnetic plane wave. The method used combines the microscopic calculation of quantum dot exciton eigenfunctions and the macroscopic Stahl's density matrix approach for the optical functions. The eigenfunctions and eigenenergies of excitons are computed in the infinite barrier model for dots of spherical shape using the effective-mass approximation. Numerical results are given and discussed for the case of GaAs/Ga1-xAlxAs QD.
