LEARNING IN INTERNATIONAL JOINT VENTURES: IMPACT OF WESTERN MANAGEMENT CONTROL

In the context of U.S.-Chinese joint ventures, we revisited the issue of management control arrangement in international joint ventures by simultaneously considering local partners' performance and learning motives and then examining the effect of U.S. management control on Chinese partners' acquisition of managerial knowledge and joint venture performance. Our model and a set of testable hypotheses were developed through synthesizing field interview data and existing literature reflecting the local partners' perspective.
