Protein levels in cattle diets. 1. Intake and total and partial apparent digestibility

摘要
The objective of this research was to study the effects of dietary crude protein (CP) levels on intake and total and partial apparent digestibility of dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), total carbohydrate (TCHO), neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and ether extract (EE) in Zebu steers fed diets ad libitum with different CP levels. Four Zebu cattle, averaging 282.6 kg live weight and fitted with cannulae in the rumen, abomasum, and ileum, were assigned to a 4 x 4 Latin square design. Rations containing 45% concentrate and 7, 9.5, 12, and 14.6% CP were offered once a day. A daily total of 10 g of chromic oxide per animal, divided into two daily doses placed directly into the rumen, was used to determine the apparent digestibility. There were no significant regressions relating intake of DM, OM, TCHO, and NDF to dietary CP levels. The dietary CP levels did not alter the site of digestion of BM, OM, TCHO, NDF, and EE. The apparent digestibility coefficients of DM, OM, TCHO, and NDF increased linearly with dietary CP levels.
