Experimental identification of the degenerated equilibrium in extreme Al end of the Al-Cr system

摘要
A method for identifying the degenerated equilibrium in extreme Al side of the Al-Cr system was studied. The samples were prepared using 99.999% purity Al rod and 99.999% purity Cr piece, by arc melting. The phase identification was performed using XRD and the phase composition was determined using EPMA. The critically selected invariant eutectic reaction temperature in Al-rich side of Al-Cr system was measured. The degenerated feature associated with the eutectic reaction L↔Al45Cr7+(AL) was clarified using DSC measurements with a few different heating rates. The method is found to be valid for other binary systems too.
