摘要
Manganese-oxide precipitates in Cu obtained by internal oxidation were studied using HRTEM. Internal oxidation of Cu-1 at.%Mn resulted in both MnO and Mn3O4 precipitates with as dominant facets parallel {111} of metal and oxide. In contrast to Ag where Mn3O4 nucleates directly, Mn3O4 in Cu is concluded to form out of MnO and the orientation relation between Mn3O4 and Cu is largely determined by the presence of an invariant line in the MnO and Mn3O4 lattices. Since Mn3O4 is thermodynamically more stable (also incorporating interfacial and strain energy) than MnO in Cu, the occurrence of MnO is ascribed to growth kinetics. (C) 1998 Acta Metallurgica Inc.
