摘要
Geriatric hip fracture patients represent an increasingly elderly, frail and medically complex patient class. Hip fractures represent one of the most serious medical problems in the elderly population, and are often life-altering, if not life-ending. Surgical treatment is the current standard of care for hip fractures. Multiple surgical options exist for the treatment of the different types of hip fractures. In order to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with this type of injury, it is imperative to focus on both surgical treatment as well as the management of all coexisting medical issues. A multidisciplinary approach to treatment that incorporates orthopaedic, geriatric, rehabilitation, endocrine, and social-work services will help increase the potential for successful patient outcomes after this devastating injury.
