Online monitoring of the evolution of polyelectrolyte characteristics during postpolymerization modification processes

摘要
A study was conducted to demonstrate the viability of online monitoring of polymer properties during postpolymerization modification processes. It was observed that automatic continuous online monitoring of polymerization reactions (ACOMP) was used for monitoring the postpolymerization modification processes. The base hydrolysis of polyacrylamide (Pamm) was chosen to demonstrate the online monitoring process. It was observed that the reaction gradually converted the neutral polyacrylamide into a copolymer, with an increasing proportion of charged monomers bearing carboxylate groups. Pamm was synthesized through free radical polymerization and was used for the hydrolysis reactions. Gel permeation chromatography (GPC) measurements and separate batch measurements were performed for the starting Pamm.
