Coadsorption of CO and hydrogen on the Cu3Pt(111) surface

摘要
The adsorption of CO and the coadsorption of CO and hydrogen on the Cu3Pt(111) surface have been studied using thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDS), high resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy (HREELS), low energy electron diffraction (LEED), and work function change measurements (Delta Phi). Two well defined adsorption states have been identified that can be attributed to CO terminally adsorbed on Pt- and on Cu-sites, respectively. Hydrogen adsorption on a CO precovered surface does not lend to a modification of the CO adsorbate state. Conversely, adsorption of CO on a hydrogen saturated surface leads to the appearance of a new higher coordinated CO adsorption state as identified with HREELS. This state does not exist on the clean surface in the investigated temperature range (>100 K).
