Environmental problems of mining in the Ural region of Russia

This paper presents the description of environmental situation in one of the oldest mining areas of Russia located at both slopes of the Ural mountains - the geographical border between Europe and Asia. The level of environmental disturbance and the contribution of mining industry into total environmental impact create new challenges for the development of mining in the region.
