Effect of lime and boron on rainfed toria (Brassica campestris subsp. oleifera var. toria)

A field experiment was conducted during winter (rabi) season of 1991 -92 anti 1992 93 to study the response of rainfed toria [Brassica compestris L. ssp, oleifera (Metzger) Sinsk. var toria] to boron either as soil application (10, 20 and 30 kg borax/ha) or as folier spray (1 spray at flowering and 2 sprays at pre-flowering and flowering @ 0.2% boron) and lime (no lime, 50% and 100% of lime requirement). The number of branches and number of siliquae/plant and seed yield of 'M 27' rapesced increased significantly due to liming, aad 50% of lime requirement was better than 100% in terms of both seed and oil yields. Application of boron either as soil application or as foliar spray significantly increased the yield-attributing characters, seed yield, seed-oil content and oil yield. Soil application was found better than foliar spray.
