Sensitivity enhancement of two-dimensional WSe2-based photodetectors by ordered Ag plasmonic nanostructures

Due to their unique photoelectric properties, two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors have recently attracted much attention as active elements in optoelectronic devices. However, the effectiveness of such devices is limited by the high transparency of 2D semiconductor films, which leads to a photosensitivity decrease. An increase in the electric field due to the local plasmons excitation is a widely used effect for maximizing absorption in thin films and improving the efficiency of optoelectronic devices based on them. Here we report a 10-fold photosensitivity enhancement of photodetectors based on 2D semiconductor WSe2 due to the ordered silver plasmonic structures.
