Primary Nasopharyngeal Tuberculosis Mimicking Carcinoma A Potentially False-Positive PET/CT Finding

We report a case of primary nasopharyngeal tuberculosis that resembled a malignant tumor due to clinical presentation and elevated uptake of 18-F FDG that were highly suggestive of malignancy. We reviewed the literature concerning primary nasopharyngeal tuberculosis and describe the role of 18-F FDG PET/CT imaging in diagnosis. Although primary nasopharyngeal tuberculosis is a relatively rare disease, it must not be excluded from the differential diagnosis of nasopharyngeal lesions in cases with high uptake of F-18 FDG, since it may show false-positive findings on F-18 FDG PET/CT scan.
