A Detailed Survey on Query by Image Content Techniques

The Content-based image retrieval systems allow the user to iteratively search image databases looking for those images which are similar to a specified query image. Selection and ranking of relevant images from image collections remains a problem in content-based image retrieval. The purpose of this survey is to describe some of the content-based image retrieval techniques. Each technique has their advantage and disadvantage. So many researches are going on this area. Image retrieval has been an active research topic in recent years due to its potentially large impact on both image understanding and Web image search. So this survey compares two types of image retrieval techniques, i.e. annotation based image retrieval and content-based image retrieval. There is a growing interest in CBIR because of the limitations inherent in metadata-based systems, as well as the large range of possible uses for efficient image retrieval.
