The article is a critical review of Pawel Tomczok's book Literary Capitalism: Images of Economic Abstractions in Polish Literature of the Second Half of the 19th Century (2018). It focuses primarily on the theoretical part of the monograph, analyzing the empirical part to a lesser extent. The article situates Tomczok's book in the area of social history of literature.
