Solid state La-Ti-citrate complexes are isolated from ethylene glycol and water solutions. The elemental composition of the compounds is determined, the C-13 and H-1-NMR and IR spectra are analysed, and their thermochemical behaviour is studied. It is found out that the ethylene glycol is present in the complex, prepared at 40 degrees C, mainly as an adduct with the citric acid. The complex obtained at 120 degrees C contains ethylene glycol almost entirely as a monocitrate. It is confirmed that in the course of the complex formation a deprotonation of part of the alcoholic OH-groups of the citrate ligands takes place. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science S.A.
