摘要:
The purpose of this study is preliminary field research to gather and assess perceptions of Evenki hunters and reindeer herders regarding climate change and whether/how local villagers have implemented adaptive strategies in dealing with local-scale climate adjustments. The study area is the Belletskiy Evenk National nasleg situated in the Aldan district, southern Yakutia (Russian Federation). The primary economic activities with in the nasleg are hunting and reindeer herding. This research utilizes open-ended interviews and questionnaires with residents of the study area, with a particular focus on residents' perceptions of climate change in the region and if necessary, various adaptation strategies implemented regarding traditional land use in the area. Research findings revealed residents perceive a linkage between notable changes in the 'local' climate and a decrease in local reindeer population, less food security, protecting reindeer herds from predatory wolf populations, and increased flooding of the Aldan River, along with a reduction in fisheries productivity.
