摘要
The effects of external optical feedback on the spectral performance of self-pulsing laser diodes are investigated both theoretically and experimentally. It is found that feedback levels as low as 1% are sufficient to suppress the self-pulsations, causing the laser linewidth and spectral envelope to narrow. The resulting higher coherence of the laser light can cause increased modal noise in multimode fibre links.
