Performance of multi-carrier CDM and COFDM in fading channels

摘要
Coded orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (COFDM) is a powerful technique for high rate data transmission over fading channels. COFDM has been chosen for the audio and video broadcasting standards in Europe. In this paper, multi-carrier code division multiplexing (MC-CDM) is presented and investigated as alternative to COFDM for high rate data transmission. With MC-CDM an additional diversity gain can be obtained by spreading each data symbol in frequency/time. By using efficient interference cancellation or joint detection techniques, it can be shown that MC-CDM outperforms COFDM with respect to bit error rate (BER) performance and bandwidth efficiency.
