摘要
The role of the cytoskeleton in the temporal organization of cells is analyzed, with emphasis given to excitation of spatially distributed self-sustained oscillations in the plasmodium of Physarum polycephalum. The unique organization of the plasmodial cytoskeleton, its dynamic characteristics, and stretch-induced activation are reviewed. The significance of intracellular pressure for cell locomotion is considered. Mathematical models are discussed that describe the rotational and shuttle movements of the protoplasm.
