摘要
The wide-ranging effects of prostate cancer can be an emotional burden to the patient and his family. This article reviews the empiric research regarding the impact of prostate cancer on the patient's emotional and cognitive health. It outlines the common sequelae of this disease and its effects on the patient and his partner. It also reviews data suggesting that the emotional state of the patient may affect the disease itself. Finally, therapeutic techniques are presented to make the clinician familiar with interventions that are available when emotional difficulties arise. Knowing what is stressful and what assistance patients will need enables clinicians to detect and treat emotional distress and to educate patients regarding expectations.
