SOCIAL PROTECTION IN ANGOLA: TENSIONS AND PERSPECTIVES IN TIME OF CRISIS AGGRAVATED BY COVID-19

This text intends to instigate the debate on social protection in times of health crisis in the Angolan context, unveil the historical, political, economic and cultural connections present in the genesis and development of social protection in the country and systematize the repercussions protection in the lives of populations in the face of the consequences of the crisis exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic. It is an exploratory study, with a literature review on the subject. It appears that, in addition to the individualization of social well-being, there is a weak role for the defenders of social achievements, aggravated by the disproportionate repression of State forces. Under the current legislation on social protection, there are guarantees of protection for formal self-employed and third-party workers, in case of illness, maternity, occupational hazards, accident and occupational disease, protection in disability, old age and death, as well as in unemployment and compensation for family expenses. In the country, these guarantees do not exist for more than 80% of young workers, as they are in the informal sector of the economy. A situation that aggravated social conditions with the mediated isolation applied during the covid-19 pandemic.
