Enhancing the Tribological Performance of PFPE by Using Defect-Rich MoS2 Additives Under High Vacuum

摘要
Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) as an additive in fluid lubricants shows desirable features. However, the effects of structural defects in MoS2 on the tribology is ignored under high vacuum. We report that defect-rich MoS2 (DR-MoS2) was used as an additive in perfluoropolyether (PFPE) base oil. The results show that PFPE oil containing 1.0 wt.% DR-MoS2 exhibits significant improvements in reducing friction and anti-wear properties with the minimal friction coefficient (0.116) and wear scar diameter (538 mu m) under high vacuum. This work provides a pathway for low-friction lubricants by developing defected 2D material systems.
