摘要
The term SAM is an acronym for Synthesis of Armored (or reinforced) Materials. This process is accomplished right inside the matrix alloy melt. The SAM process does not need or use any preliminary prepared particles. The SAM process produces new particles inside the melt. After the SAM process one has a compact and uniform structure within the MMC (Metal Matrix Composite) with small reinforced particles of refractory carbides, oxides, and nitrides. The properties of the SAM MMC are generally superior to the properties of a common MMC produced by the stir process, with the same quantities of added mixed particles. The biggest problem with the MMC production technology is the interaction between the matrix melt and the reinforced particles or fibers. Compact contact between these two phases of MMC depends on this interaction.
