Glass-forming ability and soft magnetic properties of Fe-Co-Nd-Nb-B amorphous alloys

By applying the gamma criterion the maximum glass-forming ability (GFA) of Fe67Co10-xNd3B20 (x=0, 2, 4, 6, 10) amorphous alloys was recognized when x=6, while the supercooled liquid region was extended to 87 K and the thermo-stability was improved. The tested Fe-based amorphous alloys exhibit good soft magnetic properties with relatively high saturation magnetization and low coercive force. The coercive force is lowered and the soft magnetism is improved remarkably by annealing treatment at the temperature below the glass transition temperature. The structure relaxation and the increase of magnetic hyperfine fields may cause the enhancement of the soft magnetic properties after annealing.
