摘要
The first Russian edition of the complete memoirs of A. Steinberg (1891-1975) brings attention to this individual who was completely forgotten after his emigration in 1922. However, in 1919 together with the distinguished representatives of Russian culture A. Steinberg actively participated in the organization and activities of Vol'fila (Free Philosophical Association). In 1923 in Berlin, on the basis of his presentations that were made in Vol'fila, A. Steinberg published a book Dostoyevsky's System of Freedom one of the best studies in Dostoyevsky's philosophy. At the end of his diverse literary, philosophical and public activity A. Steinberg wrote and dictated his memoirs an important documentary source on the history of Russian and West-European philosophical thought of the first two decades of the 20(th) century. The book of his memoirs delivers not only a series of portraits of writers and philosophers, but also an unintentional portrayal of the author himself a charming, friendly man, an observant and shrewd thinker. The edition of his works in modern Russia will contribute to defining a worthy place of A. Steinberg in the history of Russian philosophical and social thought.
