摘要
The objective of present review is to critically analyze the induced surface characteristics and in-vitro & in-vivo analysis of Titanium and Ti-alloys based implants after surface modification through various techniques. The modified surfaces have nano-pores, micro cracks and recast layers which affects the properties of cell adhesion, osseointegration, cell growth and hemocompatibilty. EDM/WEDM have great potential for surface modifications of solid Ti and Ti-alloys for their use in the orthopaedic implants having better outcomes than other techniques. However, the stress shielding between the implants and bone is a major challenge in tissue engineering due to differences in their elastic moduli. The porous and perforated implants fabricated using micro-drilling, SEBM and SLM provide favorable solution to this problem. Therefore, through this literature review, the influence of adavance manufacturing processes on the biocompatibility, corrosion resistance and mechanical properties of Ti and Ti based alloys through in-vivo and in-vitro studies has been discused and reviewed.(c) 2021 Elsevier Ltd.
