The synthesis and characterization of polyamides and polyesters containing azomethyne linkages are reported here. The electrical conductivity of the polymers is measured and the results explained with simple Pariser-Parr-Pople calculations. The polymers are doped with Ag and the electrical conductivity of each polymer is found to register a significant increase. Attempts are made to explain this increase. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science S.A.
