摘要
In modern times, where the speed of transmission is of utmost importance, often need arises for a reliable transmission medium. With innovations in LAN (Local Area Networks) such as FDDI ((Fiber Distributed Data Interface), Fiber Optic Data Links and associated interface schemes are gaining more and more acceptance and actually are becoming real necessities [1,2]. There are many commercial Fiber Optic Data Link Vendors with different range of products. However, the users are confronted with the uncertainties in assessing the performance criteria of these data links. In addition, several applications in a laboratory and small office environment san not afford the high cost of these too commercial and too specialized fiber Optic Data Links. In this article, the author describes a simple design methodology of a fiber optic data links and presents criteria to evaluate the performance and frequency response properties of these data links. In addition a simple method of Wave Division Multiplexing (WDM) scheme for improved data rate is also presented [1,3].
