On channel estimation based on pilot tone in OFDM systems

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) technology is promising technology in broadband data communications for wireless and wire communications because of its great immunity to fast fading and intersymbol interference (ISI). The channel estimation is a key technology in the design of OFDM systems. In this article, the OFDM model used in channel estimation is instructed. Channel estimation based on pilot tone is main schemes in OFDM system channel estimation, the pilot type is investigated. The method to select pilot is given. The non-blind channel estimation based on pilot-aid is analyzed, MMES and LS channel estimations are investigated as an example. The method to design estimator based on pilot tone in OFDM is introduced. According the investigated, the Minimum Mean-Square (MMSE) method is optimal, but with high complexity, some approximation method has low complexity but with poor performance.
