摘要
In a recent paper, Fisk & Gloeckler have presented a model that can account for Voyager 1 observations at similar to 120 AU of a sudden decrease in the intensity of particles that are accelerated in the heliosheath, with an accompanying increase in the intensity of galactic cosmic rays. In this paper we point out that the model of Fisk & Gloeckler provides a natural explanation for the recent Voyager 1 observations of plasma oscillations at 122.2 AU, 122.5 AU and 123.9 AU from the Sun, which require plasma densities of 0.055 cm(-3), 0.058 cm(-3) and 0.083 cm(-3), respectively. The interpretation of the observed large plasma densities is not that Voyager 1 has penetrated into the interstellar medium, but rather that it remains within the heliosheath. This paper also discusses the magnetic properties of the heliosheath implied by the model of Fisk & Gloeckler.
