Treatment of canine nasal aspergillosis with postoperative application of itraconasol

This article presents a comparison of information taken from the latest literature on the symptoms and treatment of canine nasal aspergillus's with the authors own experiences in relation to the case of a young dog of Siberian husky breed. X-ray rhino scope and mycology examinations revealed canine nasal aspergilli and a two-stage course of treatment was undertaken. Due to the damage caused by rhinotomy the diseased tissues were removed during the first stage of treatment and Clotrimasol (1% solution) was applied topically and locally. In the second stage, Itraconasole (5mg/kilogram) was applied to the dog per os for the next eight weeks. No disease recurrence was observed in the 24 months following the conclusion of the treatment. The authors emphasize the significance of the complex diagnostic procedure which facilitated correct diagnosis and the application of an appropriate course of treatment.
