摘要
According to the International Diabetes Federation, 15,7 million Brazilians suffer from Diabetes. Known as a disease closely related to diet and especially with carbohydrate consumption, knowledge about glycemic index and glycemic load has been widely disseminated and used in nutritional orientation. Both the glycemic index and glycemic load are concepts that generate different opinions experts and health organizations. Given this, this work through a qualitative review aims to present the concepts and clinical recommendations on glycemic index and glycemic load. In short, glycemic index and glycemic load are important tools in the nutritional guidance process, with a significant effect on glycemic control.
