摘要
The objective of this study was to formulate and evaluate salbutamol sulphate loaded Poly(vinylalcohal) (PVA)/Sodium Alginate (Na-Alg) blend microspheres by water-in-oil (w/o) emulsion crosslinking method for sustained drug delivery. Drug loading was done by simultaneous as well as sequential method. The sustained release characteristics were investigated at HCl and phosphate buffer of pH 1.2 and 7.4. Results revealed that drug was released in sustained manner up to 12 h. The effects of different ratios of PVA/Na-Alg (90/10, 70/30, 50/50) on drug loading and release were also observed. The microspheres were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and X-ray diffraction analysis to confirm the molecular dispersion of drug, thermal stability and crystallinity of the polymeric matrix before and after blending. This formulation can be a potential carrier for sustained delivery of short half-life drugs.
