The question of the image quality evaluation in two kinds of fiber-optic image bundles is addressed in this article. With the definition of the contrast transfer function (CTF), the modulation transfer function (MTF) mathematical model of line-array fiber-optic image bundles with fiber-optic diameter random error was established, and the modulation transfer function was carried out by digital analysis. The modulation transfer function has been carefully evaluated by considering the influence of phase match on the modulation transfer function between input pattern and fiber-optic image bundles and reveals differences between two kinds of fiber-optic image bundles. Taking into consideration accumulative error of fibers, the V slot array pattern on the fiber-optic image bundles is better than the tightness array pattern. The simulation results show that the modulation transfer function values of fiber-optic image bundles with random error is near the modulation transfer function values of ideal image bundles, so the influence of the fiber-optic error on the modulation transfer function is little.
